OZARK'S TOP 250 MOVIES: #250-#241

So I get bored alot at work right now so I started making my Top 100 movie list and it got out of hand and I know have a top 500. Whilst I think it is too much to list all 500 I am going th IMDB route and posting my top 250 movies of all time. Please leave comments if you want.

#250 - The Transporter (2002)
Jason Statham rocks the screen as Frank Martin, the bad-ass driver for hire in this over the top, but in a great way, Corey Yuen actioner.

#249 - The Sixth Sense (1999)
M Night Shyamalan directoral debut was the surprise hit of 1999 and rightly so. The movie's excellent use of suspense and scares without the usual horror overtones, plus the adding of the 'big twist' bring it forth as a modern classic.

#248 - Enter the Dragon (1973)
Bruce Lee kicks and chops his way through Mr Han's tournament with the help Black Belt Jones star Jim Kelly and John Saxon.

#247 - Layer Cake (2004)
The New James Bond Daniel Craig shows here why he deserves the role. He plays the cool-headed gangster with no name in this fine example of British movie-making.

#246 - Moulin Rouge (2001)
Baz Luhrmann reinvents the movie musical in this bright and beautiful rendition of the classic tale of lovers torn apart. Who knew Ewan McGregor could sing.

#245 - Pirates of the Carribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Johnny Depp single handedly created one of the all time great movie charaters in the eye-liner wearing Jack Sparrow. A movie that is now spawning two sequels.

#244 - Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
Guy Ritchie made his own name with this movie whilst making a star of soccer player Vinnie Jones. The now quintessential modern Brit gangster film.

#243 - Underworld (2003)
An eternal war between Vampires and the Lycan (werewolves) is brought to life in this excellent action-horror. A new star is born in Scott Speedman as Michael Corvin the human turned Vampire-Lycan hybrid.

#242 - The Sting (1973)
Robert Redford and Paul Newman were reteamed in front of the camera by director George Roy Hill for this brilliant tale of the ultimate big con.

#241 - The Guns of Navarone (1961)
Gregory Peck, David Niven and Anthony Quinn head up a stellar cast in this story of a mission impossile or sorts. As a team of six Allied troops try to destroy the heavily defended guns.

MOVIE REVIEW - High Tension (2003)

Director: Alexandre Aja
Starring: Cecile De France, Maiwenn, Philippe Nahon

College friends Marie and Alex are going to spend some time studying at Alex's family home in the country. But on the night they arrive a strange truck turns and the man driving proceeds to murder Alex's family whilst Marie hides. The killer kidnaps Alex and Marie follows.

My main problem with this movie is that for the first hour it follows closely to the story of Dean Koontz's 'Intensity' with absolutely no credit going to him. And in that first hour the movie is suitable tense and scary. But High Tension's killer is a different kind of machine to the almost OCD killer of Koontz's novel. Here is a man who is just messy, spilling and spraying blood without thought.

It plays like a homage to explotation slasher horror movies of the 70s. The remote locations, the use of knives/blades to kill, the copious amounts of blood and gore. This is definately not a movie for the squeamish, the death of the Alex's father alone is uncomfortably brutal.

As it seems with almost every horror-thriller in modern cinema there is a twist. A big twist. A big dumb twist. Which for me completely changed and ruined the movie. Up unto that point the movie is an excellent example of how a horror should be. It has scares, gore and oddles of tension that all lead upto a moment that is ultimately unsatisfying.

Looking back it could have worked even with the twist if they had handled it differently.

The Good: Very high tension, good performances for a horror
The Bad: Plagerism covered up with a dreadful twist
The Ugly: Blood, blood and more blood

Overall: Better than average horror. 6/10

LOST - Upcoming episode info and *SPOILERS*

Poached this from anohter message board. Don't read if you don't want to know.

General Season 2 Spoilers Highlight sections to read.
Spoiler 1: The "Orientation" film's jarring jump cuts are actually what Lindelof calls "missing pieces" that resulted when former hatch hermit Desmond spliced the broken movie back together after watching it too many times. Those missing pieces will become "very important plot points down the road."
Spoiler 2: Lindelof confirms that Walt said, "Push the button. Don't push the button. Bad."
Spoiler 3: Cuse admitted that Shannon's jungle encounter with Walt was a dream.
Spoiler 4: Says Lindelot: "I think the audience is very compelled to figure out exactly where Desmond was running to and, once he gets there, what is he going to do. We told you that he was in a [ship] wreck, but I think there are a lot of questions about how exactly he came to be here. That's certainly a story on the horizon."
Spoiler 5: "It's important to note," Lindelof says, "that we've never said when the plane crashed. I think the assumption is that it happened in 2004 when the show premiered, but we've never said that."
Spoiler 6: Was Mr. Rutherford [from Jack's flashback in episode 2.01] Shannon's dad? Her ex-husband? Expect to find out in an episode airing during November sweeps.
Spoiler 7:"The Helen we meet in flashbacks is not the same Helen that Locke was speaking to on the phone," Lindelof clarifies, sort of.
Spoiler 8: Lindelof says, "What happened to the 'tailies' that so drastically whittled their numbers is a very compelling mystery that drives us through the first third of the season."
Spoiler 9: A major character dies in an episode before the holidays.
Spoiler 10: Expect a reunion between Rose and husband Bernard.
Spoiler 11: Marvin Candle only has 1 hand.
Spoiler 12: It's not Claire who bites the dust next.
Spolier 13: We will be seeing less of Walt.
Spoiler 14: There are definitely two Helens.
Spoiler 15: The link with Shannon's dad will be explained in November

"...and Found" : Episode 2:5 : Episode Centric = Jin & Sun
Michael sets off into the jungle by himself determined to find Walt, but discovers that he is not alone. Meanwhile, Sawyer and Jin are ordered by their captors to take them to their camp, and Sun frantically searches for her missing wedding ring. The name of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's character is revealed. He and Cynthia Watros' Libby are two of the lucky "tailies" still alive and kickin'

*SPOILER*
In this episode we also find the identity of the bearded man on the boat that took Walt. The bearded man is Kelvin, the person who Desmond claimed was in the bunker before he arrived.

"Abandoned" : Episode 2:6 : Episode Centric = Shannon
Sawyer's wound becomes life-threatening as he, Michael and Jin make their way through the interior of the island with the tail section survivors. Meanwhile, Shannon is once again haunted by visions of Walt, and Charlie becomes jealous of Locke's interest in Claire, on "Lost,"

"The Other 48 Days" : Episode 2:7 : Episode Centric = Ana-Lucia
The entire seventh episode is devoted to the other survivors backstory, meaning we find out precisely what happened to them for the past month and a half they've been on the island.

*SPOILER*
And I hear (don't read if you don't want to know!) their group has been tortured by the others. Some have been kidnapped and many killed.

LOST - Of milk, chickens and bearded men.

Some notes about the last episode on 10/12.

A lot of 'did you notices' about the milk carton Hurley was drinking from having Walt's face on it.

Also some people are saying that his boss at Mr Clucks is Locke's supervisor at the box company. I'm not sure if it's right or not as they don't list on the cast list over at the IMDB. Waiting for confirmation on this.

Another thing on the IMDB cast lists. It has MC Gainey as Kelvin in next week's episode. Now MC Gainey played the leader of the Others that kidnapped Walt, in that he was just cast as Bearded Man. For those who missed that, Kelvin is the guy that Desmond says was in the Hatch before him also saying that he had died. So is Kelvin really still alive??? This supports one of the theories that Desmond just assumed he was dead as he left the Hatch.

Return of a Flight Attendant #4. Kimberly Joseph is playing Cindy in the next 2 episodes. she appeared in the very first episode of the show as a flight attendant, one more of the tail survivors.

JAMES BOND - Mum's the word

Whilst the producers haven't officially announced Daniel Craig as the new Bond it seems his mother is simply too overjoyed to keep quiet about it as she revealed he has gotten the part.

Daniel Craig star of the movie, Layer Cake, has been my first choice for the new Bond and I am excited that he accepted. I think he could possibly be the best Bond yet. If you don't believe me just go ahead and watch Layer Cake.

I just hope they handle Casino Royale the right way. The way I see it this movie should be to the Bond franchise as Batman Begins was to the Batman series.

A rebirth. A movie which can lend more emphasis on character development than on action. In Bond, like Batman, you have a really interesting character to work with. Casino Royale is essentailly the story of Bond's first '00' mission, it is about Bond finding his way in what will become his life.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Brosnan movies but they had become just another Hollywood blockbuster. A movie that was a long way from the days of Connery or Lazenby. Bond isn't about character any more, just a face to put in the action sequences. Someone to play with all the toys, to get the girls and kill the bad guys.

Maybe his ways will change now. Until the day we hear Craig say the words "The name's Bond. James Bond." we will have to wait and see.

SOCOM 3 - An Apology

I just want to take the time to apologise in advance to Cindy for the hours that I am going to spend playing this game. And for the times that I am going to be grumpy or distracted whilst wanting to play it.

SOCRACK this is my addiction that I have to live with everyday. If I don't play for a day or two I'm going to get the SOCOM DTs.

My fingers will start twitching on imaginary buttons, I will get night terrors involving me being chased by a tank.

You'll see those anti-drug commercials on TV and you'll hear "Just tell your little brother you forgot to pick him up because you were playing SOCOM."

It's crazy SOCOM becomes more than a game. It becomes life.

I am OzarkSavage hear me roar.

So again I apologise for all the times you ask me if I'm coming to bed now and I say "Just one more round.."

SUPERNATURAL - Another great show

The WB is a great place for shows.. This show on a major network would have got overwhelmed and been axed but the WB have just commisioned a full 22 episode season of this excellent new show.

Reminds of the X-Files early days. That is helped by the fact it is directed and produced by John Shiban, who worked on the X-Files as well as having David Nutter and Kim Manners directors of many X-Files episodes.

PRISON BREAK - Full season.. yay!!!

Fox announced that it wanted a full 22 episode season of Prison Break. Finally a Fox show that may last.

Also the next episode of Prison Break:

Michael's plan hits a snag when he discovers an old storage shed crucial to the escape has been turned into the guard's break room. Veronica and Nick get an explosive warning to back off their investigation to prove Lincoln's innocence; LJ goes on the run; the conspiracy claims three more lives; the identity of the mystery woman calling the shots is revealed on "The Old Head" episode of PRISON BREAK airing Monday, October 24

MOVIE REVIEW - Suspect Zero (2004)

Director: E Elias Merhige
Starring: Aaron Eckhart, Ben Kingsley, Carrie-Anne Moss

Suspect Zero is a serial killer thriller with small twists. Aaron Eckhart is FBI agent Thomas Mackelway and he has just been reassigned to New Mexico. Ben Kingsley is the killer he is investigating. Carrie Anne-Moss is pretty scenery.

This is a perfect example of a possibly good movie ruined by advertising campaign. The trailers had destroyed all the little plot twists. So if you haven't seen a trailer for this movie yet don't read any further. Go rent it you might enjoy it more than me.

*SPOILERS *
Otherwise you'll know way before the FBI agents that Ben Kingsley is killing serial killers. Also that Ben Kingsley is finding them using remote viewing. That Kingsley is also hunting down the elusive Suspect Zero.
*SPOILERS END*

The film may have been a whole lot better if I hadn't know all those things before watching. They would have actually been the surprise twists they were meant to be. But what I get is a plodding thriller in which I'm watching the FBI agent waiting for him to figure out the stuff I already know.

It also seems they cut some of the movie back. There is moment between Eckhart and Moss that comes across as out of place for the situation, it makes me think they left a couple of scenes between them on the cutting room floor.

The acting isn't bad. Kingsley is suitably over the top and distant whilst Eckhart holds his own as the burnt out agent. Moss just seems to have been used just to get a female face in the movie. The photography and camerawork throughout is bleak and bleached out in look, much like the thrillers it is trying to emulate, eg Seven, Silence of the Lambs.

The Good: Interesting plot.
The Bad: Shame most of it was ruined in trailers.
The Ugly: Very bleak tone

Overall: mediocre. 4/10

LOST fans please note that this movie contains an appearance from William Mapother (Ethan Rom from Lost)
